Strategic Objectives of Our Institute Departments
It is an interdisciplinary master’s program that was opened for the first time in its field in our country in 2003, under the leadership of the Institute of Educational Sciences. Department; It consists of the fields of Social Work, Psychology, Psychological Counseling, Medicine, Law and Sociology. As of 2021, 225 students have graduated from thesis and non-thesis master’s programs and have been entitled to receive the title of Family Counseling Specialist. Currently, 10 thesis and 25 non-thesis master’s students are continuing their education in the 2021 2022 academic year. The aim of the program is to enable students to specialize in the field of family educator and counseling by contributing to their personal and professional development in the field of Family Education and Counselling. In this way, it was prepared with the aim of contributing to science and society. The program language is Turkish. Basic program achievements; basic knowledge and concepts related to family education and counseling, being able to establish relationships between facts and concepts. The programs knowing and evaluating, strategies, methods and techniques of training related to family education and counseling solve problems encountered in practice individually and as a team member. Producing solutions by taking responsibility as a professional, being able to work with other relevant professional fields when necessary, being able to follow the information in the field using. Turkish language improve contributing directly to the development of his field through scientific research, being objective, empathetic. It is aimed to train Family Education and Counseling experts who act honestly and professionally in accordance with professional ethical values and work within the framework of democracy, human rights, social, scientific and relevant legislation. In addition, our university organizes joint certificate programs that contribute to society in cooperation with relevant units. Looking at the employment profiles of graduates, Family Education and Counseling Master’s degree graduates. Family counselor at the Ministry of Family Social Services and Municipalities; They can work as a Family Counselor and/or Psycho-social Counselor in the Ministry of Justice. Family and Children’s Courts, Police and military institutions, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Health and its affiliated private institutions and organizations, Private Family Counseling and Psycho-social Counseling Centers. They work in many international and national projects in their fields of expertise in the psycho-social units of public benefit organizations such as the Green Crescent and the Red Crescent. They can continue their PhD programs related to Family Counselling. Outstanding Features and Achievements of the Department of Family Education and Counseling Faculty members of our department take part in many journals as editors, referees and authors. One of these is the “Western Anatolian Journal of Educational Sciences” (BAEBD for short), which started its publication life in 2010 within Dokuz Eylül University, Institute of Educational Sciences, is a peer-reviewed and scientific journal published in Turkish or English twice a year, in June and December. It has been scanned in TR Index since 2018. Faculty members of our department serve as journal editors, referees and authors in the mentioned journal. Articles produced from the theses of the Department have been published. Our department organizes national and international congresses, seminars, symposiums, etc. Participates in events both as host and participant. In addition, informative webinars are organized by our academics in various fields before and during the pandemic. Examples of major activities include; International Thought Training with Children I, II, III, IV and V, Initial Workshops in Therapeutic Meeting with the Family, Inclusive Approaches towards Immigrants; Social Inclusion and Diversity, Drama Education, Process Drama Applications in Education, Postgraduate Education Abroad, Nomophobia smartphone addiction. In addition, we contribute to the relevant units of the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Family and Social Services as an educator in seminars and educator training. In our department, successes are achieved by our academicians and students. The International Family Counseling Panel was held in May 2016 and the 1st International Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling (IMACFAC2016) Congress was held in June. The Department of Family Education and Counseling has had bilateral agreements within the scope of the Erasmus+ Student and Academician Exchange Program since 2012. Two master’s level students benefited from the Erasmus+ program in Denmark. A foreign student from South Korea continued the program. The 450-Hour Family Education and Counseling Certificate Program, which is carried out jointly with DESEM, was launched in 2021. It still continues. Work is being carried out in partnership with DESEM to organize a new certificate program on victims’ rights and child-family relations. Our department, Institute of Educational Sciences and our University, continues its academic studies on developing scientific and innovative research capacity within the scope of the 2021-2025 Strategic Plan, improving the quality of education and training, strengthening institutional capacity, interaction with stakeholders and improving the quality of social services. In 2021, the 450-hour Family Education and Counseling Certificate Program, carried out jointly with DESEM, was launched. It still continues. It is intended to continue the Certificate Program. Organizing face-to-face/hybrid and or online workshops in the field in 2022, depending on the pandemic conditions, seminars, panels and training activities for public institutions and organizations and direct social contribution to the society are continuing and new ones are planned. Our students who continue their education have Erasmus+ etc. Announcements are made and student monitoring continues so that they can benefit from international exchange programs. Information is provided so that our disabled students can benefit from the facilities available on our Institute’s campus. As the Department of one of the most established universities in Turkey in its field, we have hundreds of graduates. The employment of our graduates in various organizations is increasing. Work is planned to increase recognition in this field. In addition, preparations are continuing for the opening of the doctoral program in the field. Our department, Institute of Educational Sciences and our University, continues its academic studies on developing scientific and innovative research capacity within the scope of the 2021-2025 Strategic Plan, improving the quality of education and training, strengthening institutional capacity, interaction with stakeholders and improving the quality of social services.

The department which is Turkey’s first and only Environmental Education Department master’s program, has been offering master’s degrees since 2009. Its primary aims are to contribute to the personal-professional development of undergraduate graduates and teachers on the environment and to help them acquire new methods and techniques within the scope of environmental education. The number of graduate students is 3 the program language is Turkish. Basic program achievements; the methods of learning, measurement and environmental education know psychological and mental development characteristics of students. Educational activities develop current knowledge in the field. Studies will be bring innovation to the field, interdisciplinary interaction related to environmental education. Research towards one’s goals, developing and applying an idea or practice that brings innovation to the field. New research and ideas, producing scientific studies and presenting them on national and international platforms, contributing to the field of environmental education, mental processes such as critical thinking and problem solving. New ideas and methods in the field of environmental education using with experts on national or international platforms and to communicate effectively, and to contribute to the solution of social, scientific, cultural and ethical problems encountered in the field. Looking at the employment profiles of master’s degree graduates of the Department of Environmental Education, they can work in private and public institutions related to their field. In the future, it is aimed to open a doctoral program as a department and to introduce the Journal of Environmental Education into academic life.

Developing the academic skills of graduate students and their capacity to conduct qualified and effective research Improving the quality and quantity of national and international scientific publications through in-depth and qualified academic studies prepared by graduate students based on thesis studies Development of internationalization through qualified international publications prepared in cooperation with graduate students Improving the reputation of Dokuz Eylül University through qualified academic publications prepared in cooperation with graduate students Developing the academic skills of our students who continue their postgraduate education in our program through various courses offered within the scope of the program. To develop the capacity of our doctoral students who continue their postgraduate education in our program to conduct qualified and effective research through compulsory and elective courses in which advanced quantitative and qualitative research methods are taught. To ensure that our students who continue their postgraduate education in our program develop the reputation of our university and create a sense of stakeholder belonging in the students through the studies. They prepare within the scope of postgraduate courses and thesis studies and present at national or international conferences.

Strategic Objectives of the Department of Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language The graduate program in teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language has been educating students at the master’s level since 2004. Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language master’s program has become a branch of science that attracts attention day by day. The fact that it continues education and training as a multidisciplinary program also allows scientists from different fields to exchange knowledge and experience. At the same time, the importance of the Turkish language among the world languages and the fact that it has reached a remarkable position in terms of economic and cultural aspects lead to a further increase in this interest. Therefore, efforts are continuing to open a doctoral program as well as a master’s degree in this branch of science, which does not even have an undergraduate program in universities yet. To date, 79 students have graduated from our department. The program language is Turkish. When the student profile is examined, it is seen that students from different geographies prefer our department. In addition to countries such as Serbia, Finland, Jordan, Greece, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, some students from Turkic republics such as Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan and Özbekistan have chosen the Department of Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language for their postgraduate education.
